It ha been made mandatory for people to have their PAN card linked with Aadhar with effect from 1st July. It is in the run-up to the income tax return (ITR) deadline of August 5. It is mandatory to link Aadhaar with PAN mandatory for filing and processing of income tax return.
If you have yet to get your aadhar made or get it linked with PAN, then you get this done now as you would only be able to file your returns after doing so and that too before 31st August, failing this would be no filing of returns as it won’t be processed.
Another important notice for those people who have signed up for aadhar card but yet to receive their details, can file up for the income tax returns. This was said by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) earlier. However, it has also said, that ITRs would not be processed until the actual linkage of Aadhaar with PAN.
To link your Aadhar with PAN is a process which needs to be studied well and done carefully.
It can be done via SMS
For all taxpayers whose name given in the Aadhaar card and PAN card are identical, a simple SMS-based facility is provided to achieve the linking. Such assesses need to send through a defined SMS processs. It is simple in such cases but with “minor mismatch”, in names according to the Income Tax Department, the linking can be achieved using an online facility.
Give Aadhaar in PAN application form
Aadhaar can also be added into the PAN database by quoting the bio metrics-based identity number in the PAN application form.
Through income tax e-filing website
A facility available on the Income Tax Department’s e-filing website – www.incometaxIndiaefiling.gov.in –it enables assesses with identical names given on Aadhaar and PAN as well as those with a minor mismatch to link the two identities.
So get you aadhar linked before it gets too late as it is a mandatory and official thing to be done.
